The George C. Leber Detachment 1481 of the Marine Corps League serves Lincoln County veterans of all branches, and our community. We are currently working on fund-raising for the veterans’ outreach programs, which this month includes a Thanksgiving dinner-in-a-box for veterans and their families which are being prepared by the Ft. Kennedy volunteers. Any veteran that would like a Thanksgiving dinner box please contact “Bulldog” Sump at 541-921-0956 by October 15th, 2020. Let him know how many people live with you so enough can be provided for all. We are also preparing for the annual Toys for Tots drive. Collection boxes will be deposited in stores and groceries around Lincoln County for donations of new, wrapped toys. (No damaged or used items, please.) We also offer a Flags of Honor program for veterans nearing the end of their lives, wherein a flag from the appropriate branch of service is presented to the veteran and his family. As always, our detachment is seeking a few more good Marines and FMF Navy Corpsmen of all eras and units are welcome, as well as spouses, families, veterans of other branches who have served with the Marines and civilian supporters. Meetings are usually held at 1300 on the second Saturday of each month, currently on a rotating basis at the American Legion on 424 W Olive St., Newport, and the Hilltop Inn at 1910 SE Hwy 101, Lincoln City, but due to the current Covid restrictions, we have been meeting remotely. If you are interested in attending or signing up, please contact Bulldog (541) 921-0956 or Mike (623) 703-1146. For more information, see our FaceBook page. (GeorgeCLeberMCL)

I think it is time for Lincoln County, Oregon to open up. It is time for business owners to stop treating customers like they are a walking talking petri-dish. Fred Meyer’s vision center and the Newport vision center are so afraid of customers that they won’t let you look at glasses, when there is no one else in the facility. My recommendation for any business or employee who is so effing afraid to leave their house...don’t go to work. Stop puking your fear and hysteria all over normal people, who are just trying to spend money and get back home. Customers deserve to be treated like customers and any employee who does not understand the concept of customer service, because their head is so far buried up their a** with fear, should hide under the bed and stop subjecting the rest of us, to their immature, hysterical, unprofessional bullshit. Signed, A grown ass woman
