Two of the top teams in this past weekend's Youth baseball tournament were disqualified for trying to rig the outcome. A youth baseball game is 6!innings long, and limited to 2 hours. On Saturday at Ripken Fields in Aberdeen, the South Jersey Titans and Beaver Valled Red (PA) were tied as the inning and time limit approached. The coaches discussed the fact that if the game ended in a tie, BOTH would go to the semifinals. If one team won, only it would go. They instructed their boys to start dogging it and allowing easy outs. The umpires observed this and reported it to the tournament director. The director disqualified both teams for poor sportsmanship.
