Have you considered broadcasting a local outdoors-themed weekly live or recorded show? Hunting and fishing are big business in Alabama, particularly near the coast. Nationally, bass fishing alone is a $60 billion industry. Saltwater fishing is even bigger. Throw in boating and hunting for an even bigger economic impact. If you’re not reaching those outdoors enthusiasts with your broadcasts, you’re quite literally missing the boat. Please allow me to introduce myself. I’m a professional freelance writer, photographer, consultant and broadcaster with more than 2,700 bylines in more than 154 magazines. I write regularly for Alabama Living, Alabama Game and Fish, Alabama Outdoors News, Mississippi Outdoors, Miss-Louisiana Game and Fish and many other magazines and websites throughout the year. You can see samples of my work by simply doing an Internet search for my name. From 2011-17, I co-hosted the Outdoors Show on WNSP 105.5 FM in Mobile each week as well as the syndicated Alabama’s Great Days Outdoors Radio Show, which aired on stations throughout southern Alabama. I was also the executive editor of Great Days Outdoors magazine. A new owner bought the shows and the magazine. That left me out. I would like to host a weekly live or recorded outdoors show on your station. While on the WNSP shows, I arranged for such guests as Ted Nugent, Ray Scott, Kevin VanDam and many other notable outdoors people. We also aired weekly fishing reports, talked about news and outdoors happenings and do interviews with other local, regional and national guests from the outdoors industry. I can do the same for you. At WNSP, I also wrote and hosted outdoors tips. These were 30- to 60-second broadcasts on how to catch certain species of fish and many other different outdoors topics. WNSP used these tips as fillers and broadcast them several times a day throughout each month. I received considerable public interest from these tips. If I can’t do a regular show on your station, perhaps I can do similar tips for you. I’d be happy to send you some recorded samples of tips I did for WNSP. A little more about me, I began writing professionally in 1977 and served as the outdoors editor for four daily newspapers in Louisiana and a chain of weekly newspapers in Arkansas. While in Louisiana, I hosted a weekly hour-long live radio outdoors talk show on two stations for four years and briefly hosted a weekly outdoors television show in Lake Charles, La. I have also been a guest on numerous local, regional and national radio broadcasts. While in Lake Charles, Ducks Unlimited named me its Conservation Writer of the Year. The Louisiana Wildlife Federation and the National Wildlife Federation also named me their Conservation Communicator of the Year. I graduated cum laude from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in 1984 and served for 12 years as an Air Force public affairs officer. In my last assignment, I commanded Detachment 3, Air Force Pacific Broadcasting Squadron in Seoul, South Korea, a nationwide network with eight radio stations and one national television station under me. I have a bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in history and journalism and a master’s degree from Webster University in human resources development. I’d like to talk to you about hosting a show at your earliest convenience. You can reach me at j.felsher@hotmail.com or 251-649-0342.
